The British Dental Health Foundation is an independent charity that along with its global arm, the International Dental Health Foundation, is dedicated to improving the oral health of the public by providing free and impartial dental advice, by running educational campaigns like National Smile Month and by informing and influencing the public, profession and government on issues such as mouth cancer awareness and fluoridation.
The British Dental Health Foundation
In the last year the British Dental Health Foundation:
- Provided direct advice to 32,000 members of the public that called the Dental Helpline
- Distributed around one million 'Tell Me About' patient information leaflets
- Sent out 50,000 National Smile Month Handbooks to event organisers
- Generated £1 million worth of press coverage for positive oral health information
- Secured positive oral health coverage in the press with a circulation of over 170 million
- Increased the circulation of Mouth Cancer Awareness Week articles to 43 million
The International Dental Health Foundation
All of the Foundation’s overseas work is conducted under the banner of the International
Dental Health Foundation arm of the charity. Current work carried out by the International arm includes:
- Launching National Smile Month USA 2008 in conjunction with US-equivalent charity Oral Health America
- Approving dental products on every continent to make the Foundation the biggest dental accreditation body in the world
- Working in the Middle East to translate patient information leaflets into Arabic for distribution throughout the Arabian peninsula
- Preparing for the launch of National Smile Month in Pakistan in 2009
- Discussing the launch of Tell Me About patient information lealflets in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand
The Foundation is a registered charity in the UK, and a company limited by guarantee.
